Seoul shares up 0.5 pct in late-morning trade

SEOUL (Yonhap) - South Korean stocks traded 0.5 percent higher late Monday morning as strong institutional buying outweighed selling by foreigners and retail investors, analysts said.
The benchmark Korea Composite Stock Price Index (KOSPI) jumped 10.13 points to 2,042.06 as of 11:20 a.m.
Autos fueled the rise with top automaker Hyundai Motor and its auto-parts affiliate Hyundai Mobis both adding more than 3 percent.
Techs were mixed. Chip giant Hynix Semiconductor gained nearly 4 percent, but market bellwether Samsung Electronics lost more than 2 percent.
The local currency was changing hands at 1,083.25 won to the greenback as of 11:20 a.m., up 2.65 won from Friday's close.
