Iran to Preside over OPEC-EU Joint Meeting

TEHRAN (FNA)- Caretaker of the Iranian Oil Ministry Mohammad Aliabadi is due to preside over a joint meeting between members of the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) and the European Union in Vienna on June 27.
Iran's OPEC Governor Mohammad Ali Khatibi said that representatives from OPEC and the EU would discuss long-term energy policies at the meeting.

Khatibi said on Sunday that several lectures and reports on global oil supply and demand will be delivered at the meeting, known as EU-OPEC Energy Dialogue.

Iran, OPEC's second largest crude exporter, currently holds the presidency of the cartel, a position it is holding for the first time since the 1979 Islamic revolution.

Iran officially took over the presidency of OPEC for the first time in 36 years on January 2011 and the country's former Oil Minister Massoud Mir-Kazzemi was elected as president of the organization.

Aliabadi has recently been appointed as Iran's caretaker oil minister and he represented the Islamic Republic of Iran at the ministerial meeting of the OPEC in Vienna on June 8.

In May President Ahmadinejad relieved the oil minister from his post after the government started merger of a number of ministries, including the oil and the industries and mines ministries and Aliabadi, who is a former head of Iran's Physical Education Organization, was appointed as the country's caretaker oil minister in a decree issued by Ahmadinejad.
