Seoul shares open higher on bargain hunting
SEOUL (Yonhap) - South Korean stocks got off to a strong start on Tuesday as retail investors hunted for bargains after recent falls, analysts said.
The benchmark Korea Composite Stock Price Index (KOSPI) surged 27.81 points, or 1.38 percent, to 2,047.46 in the first 15 minutes of trading.
Shares gathered ground across the board, with blue chips leading the climb. Top automaker Hyundai Motor jumped around 3 percent and leading steelmaker POSCO added more than 2 percent.
The local currency was trading at 1,082.05 won to the U.S. dollar as of 9:15 a.m., up 3.85 won from Monday's close.
