Five injured as passenger jet crash-lands near N W Russian city
MOSCOW, June 21 (Itar-Tass) - At least five people received injuries
when a Tupolev-134 passenger jet crash-landed on a local automobile road
in the vicinity of Russia's northwest city of Petrozavodsk, the
administrative center of the region of Karelia.
The fuselage of the jet was fully destroyed in the course of landing,
a source at Russia's federal Ministry for Emergency Situations and Civil
Defense /EMERCOM/ told Itar-Tass.
The Tupolev-134 had taken off from Moscow's Domodedovo airport with 48
people, including five crewmembers, aboard.
"The information we have at this moment suggests four injured people
are in a heavy condition," the source said.
Upon striking the ground, the jet caught blaze that was eliminated by
the time of reporting.
A total of six firefighting teams and nine emergency medicine crews
are working at the site of the accident, the source said.
