EMERCOM updates figures on N W Russia jet crash, 40 dead
MOSCOW, June 21 (Itar-Tass) -Russia's Ministry for Emergency
Situations and Civil Defense /EMERCOM/ has confirmed that only 8 people
have survived Monday night's jet crash near the airport of Petrozavodsk,
the capital of the northwest region of Karelia, while the other 40 people
died.
"All the eight survivors were rushed to hospitals in a heavy
condition," an official at EMERCOM'S information department said.
The Tupolev-134 jet of the Rusair airline crash-landed on an
automobile road less than 2 kilometers away from the Petrozavodsk airport.
Experts indicate that difficult weather conditions were the most
probable cause of the crash.
