One man injured as ferry collides with fishing boat in Yellow Sea
INCHEON, June 21 (Yonhap) -- A passenger ship with more than 300 people aboard collided with a fishing boat off the western coast on Tuesday, but no fatalities were reported, maritime police officials said.
The 396-ton Democracy 5 carrying about 320 passengers crashed into the 9.7-ton Haesung at 2:40 p.m. in waters near Daecheong Island in the Yellow Sea, Coast Guard officials said, adding the Democracy was cruising from Baengnyeong Island, the nation's northernmost island, to Incheon via Daecheong Island.
The crash occurred just 20 minutes after the passenger ship left Daecheong Island, they said.
All 320 passengers on board the ferry were safe, while three people from the fishing ship fell into the water before being rescued, they said, adding one of them was rushed to a nearby hospital.
The Coast Guard said that it was looking into the exact cause of the accident.
