Iranian, Iraqi Presidents Urge Enhanced Regional Cooperation

TEHRAN (FNA)- Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad and his Iraqi counterpart Jalal Talabani in a phone conversation on Tuesday underlined the necessity for increased cooperation between the two neighboring states on bilateral and regional issues.
"No doubt, further deepening and promotion of cooperation and consultations between Tehran and Baghdad will serve the interests of both nations in all fields and help restore peace and security in the region," Ahmadinejad said during the phone talk.

Talabani, for his part, expressed pleasure in the growing relations between the two countries, and said, "Strengthening the friendly ties and joint cooperation between the two countries can result in valuable achievements for the two nations and the region."

Iran and Iraq have enjoyed growing ties ever since the fall of Saddam Hussein in 2003.

Both sides are working on a series of plans to take wide strides in the expansion of their ties, in economic fields in particular.

The Iranian government and private investors have expressed major interest in taking the numerous investment opportunities existing in Iraq, given the profound cultural, historical and religious bonds existing between the two neighboring nations.
