Iran in Talks with UNWTO Members to Boost Cooperation on Tourism

TEHRAN (FNA)- Iranian Vice-President and Head of the Cultural Heritage, Handicrafts and Tourism Organization held separate meetings with a number of world tourism officials on the sidelines of the 90th session of the UN World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) Executive Council in Mombasa, Kenya.
Rouhollah Ahmadzadeh-Kermani represented Iran at the three-day UNWTO session in Mombasa with ministers, deputy ministers and high-ranking tourism officials from 30 world countries in attendance.

Ahmadzadeh held separate meetings on the sidelines of the UN meeting with other envoys and participants, including Kenyan Minister of Tourism, and discussed tourism cooperation and interaction between Iran and UNWTO members.

During his meeting with the Kenyan minister, the two sides explored ways for the further expansion of the two countries' cooperation in tourism fields.

The World Tourism Organization (UNWTO), based in Madrid, Spain, is a United Nations agency dealing with questions relating to tourism and is a significant global body, concerned with the collection and collation of statistical information on international tourism.

The World Tourism Organization plays a role in promoting the development of responsible, ‎sustainable and universally accessible tourism, paying particular attention to the ‎interests of the developing countries‎.

The Organization encourages implementation ‎of the Global Code of Ethics for Tourism, with a view to ensuring that member ‎countries, tourist destinations and businesses maximize the positive economic, ‎social and cultural effects of tourism and fully reap its benefits, while minimizing its ‎negative social and environmental impacts.
