Bastrykin urges quick exposure of investigator's murder.

MOSCOW, June 22 (Itar-Tass) - Alexander Bastrykin, Chairman of the
Investigation Committee of Russia (ICR), has demanded that every effort
be made to unravel the murder of an investigator in Makhachkala and help
the family of the victim, ICR spokesman Vladimir Markin has told Itar-Tass.
Two unidentified gunners shot to death Gadzhi Alibegov, senior
investigator of particularly important cases at the ICR department for
Lenin District of Makhachkala, at about 23:00 on Tuesday in front of his
wife on Khurshilov street, when the investigator emerged from his car near
the house .
Criminal proceedings have been instituted under Article 295
(encroachment on the life of a person engaging in a preliminary
investigation) and Article 222 of the Penal Code of the Russian Federation
(illicit trafficking in weapons).
"Investigators regard Alibegov's professional activities as one of the
main avenues of inquiry into the murder," Markin said. He recalled that
ever since the ICR had been established, investigators quite often had
been subjected to threats for their principled stand during the
investigation of criminal cases, and increasingly often such threats are
carried out.
In Dagestan alone, this is already a third murder of an ICR officer in
the recent period. Investigators will continue honestly and professionally
to perform their duty. Those who will dare encroachon on their life are in
for an inevitable punishment, ICR personnel promise.
