Iran to Continue Trial of Detained Americans on July 31

TEHRAN (FNA)- The next court hearing of the three American nationals who were detained on spying charges after crossing Iran-Iraq borders illegally will be held on July 31, their lawyer said.
"The next trial will be held on July 31," Massoud Shafi'ee said on Tuesday. He said he had received a notification of the trial from Iranian authorities.
Shane Bauer and Josh Fattal, both 28, were arrested along with Sarah Shourd, 32, on July 31, 2009, on suspicion of spying after crossing into Iran from neighboring Iraq.
All the three are accused of "spying and illegally entering the country."
Shourd is being tried in absentia after she returned to the United States when she was freed on humanitarian and medical grounds in September 2010, paying bail of around 500,000 dollars.
Shourd told AFP in Washington that she will not return to Iran to join the other two in the dock.
"I've emailed the families and Sarah. This time the notification that I have received did not demand her presence, it just said to be ready to defend all three," Shafi'ee added on Monday.
