Iran's Shipping Company Rejects US Sanctions
TEHRAN (FNA)- Iran's state shipping line rejected on Tuesday the latest round of US sanctions against it, describing the move as an "unfair" attempt by Washington to damage the Iranian economy.
"This action of America is unfair and against the international law and regulations," the Islamic Republic of Iran Shipping Lines said in a statement.
On Monday, the US Treasury imposed a new set of sanctions against IRISL-affiliated companies and individuals with measures targeting their operations in Britain, China, Singapore and the United Arab Emirates.
IRISL said the measures were adopted to "disrupt the country's imports and exports."
"The adoption of these measures is expected to affect one of the influential economic infrastructure of the country ... this while the American government and its allies are yet to provide proof that the company's activities are illegal," it added.
In September 2008, the Treasury designated IRISL as providing logistical services to Iran's defense ministry, which oversees the country's ballistic missile program.
Iran is under four rounds of UN Security Council sanctions for turning down West's calls to give up its right of uranium enrichment, saying the demand is politically tainted and illogical.
Tehran has dismissed West's demands as politically tainted and illogical, stressing that sanctions and pressures merely consolidate Iranians' national resolve to continue the path.
Washington and its Western allies accuse Iran of trying to develop nuclear weapons under the cover of a civilian nuclear program, while they have never presented any corroborative evidence to substantiate their allegations. Iran denies the charges and insists that its nuclear program is for peaceful purposes only.
Tehran stresses that the country has always pursued a civilian path to provide power to the growing number of Iranian population, whose fossil fuel would eventually run dry.
