Minister Lauds Close Cultural Cooperation between Iran, Afghanistan

TEHRAN (FNA)- Iranian Minister of Culture and Islamic Guidance Seyed Mohammad Hosseini underlined Iran and Afghanistan's cultural and historical commonalities, and asked for closer cooperation between Iranian and Afghan artists.
Addressing the opening ceremony of Afghanistan's Cultural Festival and Exhibition, Hosseini said that there are many cultural and artistic fields for the joint activity of the two countries' artists, and asked Iranian and Afghan artists to exchange experience with each other.
Hosseini pointed to Iran's continued support for Afghan during the last three decades since the victory of the Islamic Revolution, and added, "We are proud that during hard times of war, when the Red Army attacked Afghanistan, we stayed close with oppressed people of Afghanistan."
He stressed that Afghan Muslim people have always considered Iran as a shelter and sanctuary for themselves and felt secure here.
Hosseini also admired selection of Ghaznean city, in Afghanistan, as cultural capital of Islamic world for year 2013, and added that in the important cultural event Iran intends to contribute.
The Cultural Festival and Exhibition of Afghanistan started work in Tehran on Tuesday with Afghanistan vice-speaker of parliament, ambassador to Iran and a number of Afghan artists as well as officials from Culture and Islamic Guidance Ministry in attendance.
