Japan’s LCSA funds artesian wells and scholarships in Laos

(KPL) The Lao Children’s Support Association of Japan (LCSA) has provided three artesian wells and given 12 million kip in cash to villagers of two districts, Saythany and Thourakhom.
The total cost (wells and 54 scholarships) is US$ 9,000.
A hand-over ceremony of the artesian wells and scholarships was held on 9-10 September 2008. Mr Hiroyasu Iida, president of the Lao Children’s Support Association of Japan, his delegates and representatives of the two villages attended this event.
The villagers of Phonhaikham would be getting 14 scholarships. Saythany district has allocated one artesian well and 20 scholarships to secondary school students.
This district would also get and villagers in Thongmang village located in the Saythany district would get one artesian well and 20 scholarships. to Souksala villagers and primary school pupils in Thourakhom district.
Mr Hiroyasu IIDA, President of the Lao Children’s Support Association expressed interest in giving support to poor people in Laos, especially those who live in upland and rural areas as they have limited access to clean water and education.
He said he would like to help them enjoy such basic facilities by means of grants. He said that the assistance that he had given would not be the last as this would be an ongoing process.
Mr Hiroyasu told the reporters that his association was planning a friendship football match between Lao and Japanese students and the game would be played in 2009. The purpose, he added, is to promote solidarity, understanding and cultural exchange.
Another plan of his, he said is to select Lao students to take part in football matches in Japan.
In 2007 the LCSA provided one artesian well to Nonkhor village, Saysettha district.
