Japan, Australia air forces to hold 1st ever joint exercise in July
The air forces of Japan and Australia will hold their first ever joint exercise in Alaska in July, Japan's Air Self-Defense Force said Wednesday, in line with a bilateral defense cooperation agreement signed in May last year.
The air forces of the two countries will conduct the exercise from July 7 to 9 using Japanese F-15 fighters and Australian F/A-18 Hornet fighters.
The fighters will be in Alaska to participate in a U.S. Air Force drill, which will be held from June 27 to July 29.
In May last year, Japan and Australia signed a bilateral defense accord, enabling Japan's Self-Defense Forces and Australia's military to share food, fuel and other supplies during operations such as disaster relief missions.
The so-called acquisition and cross-servicing agreement also allows for the mutual provision of transportation, accommodation, maintenance and health services
