Samsung Heavy wins 650 bln won drill ship order

SEOUL, June 24 (Yonhap) -- Samsung Heavy Industries Co., a South Korean shipyard, said Friday that it has received a 650 billion won (US$608 million) deal to build a drill ship.
Under the deal with Ocean Rig of Greece, Samsung Heavy will deliver the vessel, used to find oil and gas wells in deep waters, by November 2013, the company said in a regulatory filing. The vessel will be 448 meters long and 42 meters wide, it added.
Samsung Heavy said last month it received $10.5 billion worth of orders through May, achieving 91 percent of this year's target of $11.5 billion.
Samsung Heavy has won deals so far this year to build eight drill ships.
Shares of Samsung Heavy were trading at 46,050 won on the Seoul bourse as of 1:40 p.m., down 1.92 percent.
