Military prosecution probing four players on match-fixing allegations

SEOUL, June 24 (Yonhap) -- Four local football players, including three from the military athletic corps team, are under investigation for their alleged role in match fixing, prosecutors said Friday.
According to investigators and football clubs, three players from Sangju Sangmu Phoenix have been summoned by the military prosecution for questioning on their role in fixing K-League matches. Another player, with the Chunnam Dragons, has been arrested by prosecutors in Changwon, about 400 kilometers southeast of Seoul.
The probe comes about two weeks after 10 active K-Leaguers were indicted by Changwon prosecutors for throwing K-League contests in April. One other player, Kim Dong-hyun of Sangju, was indicted by the military prosecution.
Kim was one of 10 players who received a lifetime ban from the K-League.
After indicting the players, Changwon prosecutors have been looking into K-League games from last year.
K-Leaguers have until the end of this month to report themselves to the league office in exchange for reduced penalties. The K-League will also offer monetary compensation for individuals who report match-fixing attempts and other corruption in the league.
