LACK OF UNDERSTANDING ON COMPUTER SECURITY INVITES HACKERS

KUALA LUMPUR, June 24 (Bernama) -- The lack of understanding and failure of
Internet users to understand the functions of computer software enables hackers
to attack their computers easily.

Cyber Security Responsive Services vice-president Adli Abd Wahid said most
of the Internet users in the country did not know the correct way of ensuring
that their computers and data were secured.

In fact, there were some who did not know the actual functions of the
'Firewall' input although they had been using the Internet for so long, he said
when interviewed in the programme, 'Hot Seat', aired by Bernama Radio24.

"Thus, they must be sensitive and take proactive measures to protect their
data and computer system. As a preparatory measure, the users must have a good
understanding of and knowledge on information technology (IT) especially on
issues concerning cyber security.

"Like it or not, every user must have IT knowledge because in the present
era, we use the computer and Internet widely in our daily life," he said.

Adli said the action by unidentified hackers who had attacked government
websites recently called for the authorities, organisations, internet users and
web administrators to be more sensitive and to prepare themselves to face
follow-up attacks.
