LEADERSHIP, ACCOUNTABILITY AND KPI - NEW CORPORATE CULTURE FOR GLCs

KUALA LUMPUR, June 25 (Bernama) -- The new corporate culture for
government-linked companies (GLCs) should be based on the right leadership,
accountability and key performance index (KPI).

Hong Leong Bank Group Managing Director Yvonne Chia said these three would
ultimately drive high performance and sustainability in the push for prosperity
through collaborations between the private and public sectors and for long-term
value creation.

She lauded the government's framework such as the various programmes under
the Economic Transformation Programme (ETP) and also the creation of KPI in
GLCs.

Chia was speaking at a forum titled "Collaboration - A New Corporate
DNA Malaysia: Malaysia Inc V3" in conjunction with the GLC Open Day organised by
Khazanah Nasional Bhd.

The forum panelists also identified global competitiveness and talent
shortage as among the challenges faced by corporate Malaysia.

Chia pointed out that economies of scale was also one of the key issues when
looking towards the Asian integration by 2015.

In order for GLCs and local companies to transform with a strong advantage,
economies of scale was important, she added.

Axiata Group Bhd Chief Executive Officer Jamaluddin Ibrahim said that for
GLCs to expand overseas, economies of scale was important to reduce costs.

In the case of Axiata, he said, the company had strengthened its operations
internally before venturing abroad.

Time dotCom Bhd Chief Executive Officer Afzal Abdul Rahim, however, said
scale might not be important especially in today's intellectual property (IP)
economy.

On talent, the panelists said that there was an urgent need to nurture
talent because talent would determine the success of any plans executed.
