Iran, Pakistan Discuss Counter-Terrorism, Anti-Narcotics Measures

TEHRAN (FNA)- Iranian Interior Minister Mostafa Mohammad-Najjar and Pakistani Interior Minister Rehman Malik conferred on the two countries' joint efforts against extremists, terrorists and drug-traffickers.
After their meeting held here in Tehran on the sidelines of two day International Conference on Global Fight against Terrorism on Saturday, the two ministers said that they have come up with strategies to fight terrorism and narcotics.

"We discussed ways to collaborate on the fight against extremism and terrorists that use the Pakistani soil for actions against Iran's interests," Mohammad-Najjar said

He further noted that the two officials also exchanged views on ways to combat narcotics, "which is a major source of financing terrorism."

"We came to a consensus on how to fight organized terror and money laundering, as well as strategies to improve border control," the Iranian interior minister stated.

Malik, for his part, said that his country would not allow terrorists to use the Pakistani soil against Iran, and stressed, "We are working jointly together."

He stressed that Afghanistan and Pakistan are not the only countries that should fight terrorism, noting that terrorism must be fought at an international level.

On Friday, Presidents of Iran, Pakistan and Afghanistan, during their tripartite meeting here in Tehran, underlined the necessity for further cooperation among among the regional and the neighboring countries.

President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, Pakistani President Asif Ali Zardari, and Afghan President Hamid Karzai urged close cooperation among regional countries in order to bring peace and security to the Middle-East.

They pledged to expand their cooperation in political, security, economic and cultural areas, as well as fighting terrorism and foreign interventions.
