Iranian PhD Student Mistreated, Tortured by Swedish Police
TEHRAN (FNA)- Reports from Stockholm police department said the Swedish policemen have arrested, mistreated and even tortured an Iranian PhD student after the latter encouraged his daughter to do her (Muslim) prayers.
According to FNA dispatches, the Stockholm Police forces attacked Dr. Dalvandi, a PhD student at Karolinska Institute, last Sunday (June 19) and held him in solitary confinement for three days without raising any charges against him.
Reports also said that police mistreatments continued even after the inmate announced that he has heart problems.
The Stockholm police have both deprived him of his vital medications and not allowed him to even open the cell window for fresh air.
The mistreatments and physical and psychological tortures came after he tried to encourage his daughter, Mandana, to do her prayers. Mandana had filed a complaint against her father.
Police are still holding Mandana, alleging to be concerned about her safety, and have refrained from allowing a meeting between she and her father on void allegations.
Dalvandi has reportedly visited the Iranian embassy in Sweden in a bid to ask the Iranian government to defend his rights.
Iran has always lashed out at the western countries for using human rights issues as a tool and pretext for pressurizing independent states to conceal their own crimes and wrong deeds.
Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad in November lambasted continued violation of human rights by certain European countries.
