Lotte Mart to open new outlet in Indonesia

Lotte Mart Co., South Korea's third-largest discount store chain, said Monday that it will open a new store this week in Makassar on Sulawesi island, Indonesia, as part of its efforts to tap deeper into the country.
The outlet, to be opened on Tuesday, will be Lotte Mart's 23rd outlet in the Southeast Asian country and will raise the number of its overseas outlets to 107, the company said.
Lotte Mart entered into the Indonesian market in 2008 by acquiring a 75 percent stake in discount retailer PT Makro Indonesia, which operated 19 stores in Indonesia, one of the region's largest economies.
In 2006, Lotte Mart opened its first overseas store in Vietnam. In 2007, the discount store chain tapped into China by acquiring eight Chinese stores from SHV.
The discount store chain, a unit of retail-oriented conglomerate Lotte Group, currently operates 82 discount outlets in China and two in Vietnam. In South Korea, Lotte Mart has 92 outlets.
