M'SIAN PM WANTS MARRIAGE COURSE TO FOCUS ON STRESS, CONFLICT MANAGEMENT

Prime Minister Najib Razak wants stress and
conflict management be given emphasis in pre-marital courses to overcome
matrimonial problems which were getting more serious in the country.

He said marital problems could affect the wellbeing of the community and
country, thus dampening the effort of the government to produce youths who could
be leaders of strong morals and faith.

"When married and living under the same roof, there will be differences
between a couple, thus it is important that we should be skilful in managing
stress and conflicts to avoid getting divorced," he said when speaking at the
closing of a mass pre-marital course at the Sultan Ahmad Shah Convention Hall
here Sunday.

The course attended by 1,111 youths from the Pekan Parlimentary constituency
and gained entry into the Malaysia Book of Records.

Najib, who is also the Member of Parliament for Pekan, said the call for
these new elements in pre-marital
courses proved the government was serious in preserving the family institution.

Apart from this, the government had also planned various programmes for
youths as the group was an investment for the future of the nation, he said.

According to Najib, programmes such as the Gathering of One Million Youths
in Putrajaya, MyFirst House Scheme and Youth Parliament which will be
implemented soon proved the seriousness of the government towards this group.

Later when speaking at the closing of the Single Mothers and Fathers Family
Day in Pekan at Dataran Pekan here, Najib asked single mother associations in
the country to register their associations quickly so that assistance could be
channeled to them.

He said with the registration, the government could provide more comfortable
living for them.

"The assistance is a reflection of the government's commitment to help
all groups irrespective of race or religion," he said.
