Talabani Underlines Islam's Opposition to Terrorism

TEHRAN (FNA)- Iraqi President Jalal Talabani condemned the attempt made by certain terrorist groups to affiliate their causes to Islam, and said Islam is a religion of peace and friendship and deplores terrorism.
Talabani said Islam is away from all types and forms of terrorism and Muslims are the greatest victim of terrorism.

He further urged for collective cooperation against terrorism, saying, "Regional cooperation is the best way to fight against terrorism."

The Iraqi president requested presentation of a precise meaning for terrorism, and underlined that practice of justice and establishment of peace are the best means in the campaign against terrorism.

He also described terrorism as an international issue which surpasses the borders of any given country and confrontation against which needs collective cooperation.

"We attempt to have cooperation with our brotherly countries in campaigning terrorism," the Iraqi president reiterated.

"The regional nations uprisings indicated the nations' tendency and longing for justice and national independence," he reminded.

"The Iraqi government decides to close Camp Ashraf - the main training base of the terrorist Mojahedin-e Khalq Organization (MKO) - and deport its settlers from its soil by the end of this year," the Iraqi president underscored.

"Iraq is not a base for terrorism or attack on the neighboring countries," he stressed.
