Senior Iranian Official Stresses Key Role of Resistance in Lebanon's Stability

TEHRAN (FNA)- Secretary of Iran's Supreme National Security Council (SNSC) Saeed Jalili underlined that the resistance shown by the Lebanese people against foreign aggression and occupation has made Lebanon a stable country.
"Lebanon's resistance against aggression, occupation and terrorism has strengthened the country's position in the region and has turned it into a stable country on the international scene," Jalili said at a meeting with Lebanese Foreign Minister Adnan Mansour and his companions here in Tehran.
The meeting was held on the sidelines of the two-day International Conference on Global Fight against Terrorism which wrapped up work in Tehran on Sunday.
Jalili further expressed the hope that the new Lebanese government, which enjoys the support of the country's popular Resistance Movement, could provide welfare and tranquility for the people.
He also said that national solidarity and the foresight shown by the Lebanese leaders have paved the ground for the country to play a determining role in the region.
Mansour, for his part, lauded the close and brotherly ties between Tehran and Beirut, and voiced his country's preparedness to accelerate implementation of the agreements signed by the two states on mutual cooperation in various fields.
On Saturday, Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, in a meeting with Lebanese foreign minister, underlined the two countries' resolve to further expand bilateral ties.
The Iranian president reiterated that Tehran will do its best to implement the agreements signed between the two states in his last state visit to Beirut.
He also urged his cabinet members to hold further meetings with their Lebanese counterparts to look into further ways of expanding the bilateral ties.
