Red Cross officials of two Koreas to attend int'l meeting in China
Top Red Cross officials from the two Koreas will attend an international meeting slated for early next month in China, a South Korean Red Cross official said Tuesday.
The two Koreas will send delegations to the "East Asian regional Red Cross leadership meeting" on July 5-7 in Ordos city of China's Inner Mongolia, the official said.
"I understand the two sides will be represented by Kim Yong-hyun, secretary-general of the South Korean Red Cross, and Paek Yong-ho, vice chairman of the Central Committee of the Red Cross Society of North Korea," he said on condition of anonymity.
There is no plan for a separate meeting between the two Koreas, but the officials are anticipated to exchange casual conversations during the meeting.
The meeting, also involving China, Japan and Mongolia, will discuss ways to jointly deal with the lingering radiation threat from the damaged nuclear reactors in Japan, according to the South Korean Red Cross.
The five countries will also introduce achievements of their humanitarian aid and disaster relief activities made at home and abroad and exchange related information, officials said.
