OIC to step up dialogue with CICA, OSCE and SCO.

ASTANA, June 28 (Itar-Tass) - The Organisation for the Islamic
Cooperation (former Organisation for the Islamic Conference) needs an
effective body - an institute or a centre, which will do forecasting and
profound analysis, and will suggest to the heads of state possible ways of
the development of the situation both in the Organisation and in the
world, President Nursultan Nazarbayev of Kazakhstan said here on Tuesday.
"The Conference on Interaction and Confidence-Building Measures in
Asia (CICA), created on the initiative of Kazakhstan, is a unique
multilateral instrument for maintaining security and cooperation on the
Asian continent. Fifteen out of 24 CICA members are members of OIC," he
said, addressing the 38th session of the OIC Council of Foreign Ministers.
Nazarbayev stressed that "thanks to joint efforts, a foundation was
laid for a dialogue of OIC with CICA, the Organisation for Security and
Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) and the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation
(SCO). We are going to promote its further development," said the
president of the country, which took over presidency in the OIC Council of
Foreign Ministers on Tuesday.
