OIC's change of name to symbolise Islamic countries' modernisation.
28/6 Tass 111
ASTANA, June 28 (Itar-Tass) -- The change of name of the Organisation
of the Islamic Conference into the Organisation of the Islamic
Cooperation, which happened on Tuesday at the 38th session of its foreign
ministers' Council, will become a symbol of modernisation, unanimity and
competitiveness of the Ummah /Islamic community/, Kazakhstan's President
Nursultan Nazarbayev said.
He expressed hope that the organisation "will participate actively in
formation of the international agenda."
"Having gained the big experience over chairing the IOSCE, Kazakhstan,
now chairing the ministerial conference of the Organisation of the Islamic
Cooperation, is ready to undertake everything possible for the
overwhelming dialogues on any problems of our organisation," Nazarbayev
said.
The dialogue platform in Astana may favour "both settlement and
prevention of many local inter-religious conflicts both in the West and in
the East," he explained. "No wonder that Kazakhstan's chairing role in the
organisation has a motto Peace, Cooperation and Development."
"Having major achievements in all the three parameters, our country
will apply every effort to raise the authority of the organisation,"
Nazarbayev added.
