ENTREPRENEURSHIP CRITICAL IN CREATING WEALTH AND INNOVATIONS
MELAKA, Malaysia June 28 (Bernama) -- The Malaysian prime minister's wife,
Rosmah Mansor said entrepreneurship is critical in creating wealth, inducing
innovations and promoting competitiveness in an increasingly globalised economy.
She said the entrepreneur was widely regarded as an integral player in the
business culture and thus, it was most appropriate that they should start at the
youth stage.
"However, the next generation of entrepreneurs must not only transform
business just for profit per se. They must reshape its relationship to society
by creating economic value in a way that also creates value for society," she
said at the luncheon talk of the 11th Melaka International Youth Dialogue
organised by the World Assembly of Youth (WAY), here.
Also present was Melaka Chief Minister Mohd Ali Rustam, WAY president Datuk
Idris Haron and president of the World Youth Bank Network (Swiss) Tomislav
Bogdanic.
Some 100 delegates from the WAY member countries are attending the three-day
dialogue, which carries the theme "Shaping the Next Generation of
Entrepreneurs".
Rosmah said entrepreneur as the "movers and shakers" of the economy would
also be the ones who created social value to businesses.
"I believe that you also will bring major transformations to business
thinking and practise and in this era of dynamic technology, linkages and
networking, both internationally and locally, are of utmost importance," she
said.
She said entrepreneurship could result in new industries and history was
full of inspiring stories of individuals who took a good idea, developed it,
managed it and turned it into marketable product.
She cautioned entrepreneurs who achieved success and were at the top not to
be selfish but instead always give a helping hand to the aspiring entrepreneurs
so that they too could be successful.
WAY, established in 1949, has 120 members from all continents, and has
worked diligently in promoting youth employment, the environment, human rights,
democracy and health, among others.
