DEMAND FOR PLYWOOD, ELECTRONICS TO INCREASE IN DISASTER-HIT JAPAN
KUALA LUMPUR, June 28 (Bernama)-- Demand for plywood and logs, plastic
products, electronic parts as well as liquefied natural gas by earthquake-hit
Japan may rise as the country struggles to get back on its feet.
Malaysia's Trade Commissioner in Japan Yuslinawati Mohd Yusof said demand
for plywood would rise as Japan needed to construct 60,000 units of temporary
houses for quake victims.
She said such items were needed as factories producing them had halted
operations as a result of the devastating tremor and ensuing tsunami waves.
Presenting an overview of the current situation and trade opportunities for
Malaysian businessmen in Japan here today, she said although there was
tremendous pressure for Japan to recover from the disaster, it would never
compromise on product quality.
Yuslinawati also anticipated demand for food products to increase as there
was a general fear among Japanese that food produced in the country may have
been contaminated by radiation.
