Two large bridges upgraded on Vladivostok-Khabarovsk road.
VLADIVOSTOK, June 29 (Itar-Tass) - Two large upgraded bridges have
been put into operation on the Vladivostok-Khabarovsk section of the M-60
Federal Highway. Motor traffic resumed Tuesday via the bridges over the
rivers Chyornaya (black) and Bogataya (rich) in a suburb of Vladivostok,
an official in the press service of the Vladivostok branch of the USK MOST
bridge-building organization told Itar-Tass on Wednesday.
The bridge over the river Bogataya in the area of the railway station
Sputnik is the largest of the facilities. It is more than 100 metres long
and 13 metres wide, which will make it possible to arrange for a turning
ring-road beneath it for public transport vehicles. This work is being
finalized. Builders have also consolidated the river banks and dredged the
riverbed. During rainy periods the river turns into a tempestuous torrent
that floods the nearby areas.
Work to reconstruct the M-60 Federal Highway is being done under the
programme to prepare Vladivostok to play host to the 2012 APEC summit.
All the old bridges over the rivers Bogataya, Chyornaya, Peschanka
(sandy) and Sapyornaya (sapper) have been already reconstructed in full.
The construction of a large grade separation at Vesennyaya Station is
nearing completion..
A final reconstruction of the M-60 highway is scheduled for the end of
2011 while a 500-metre grade separation is to be ready by November this
year. After all reconstruction operations are completed, the road section
leading from the airport to Vladivostok will have six lanes. The quality
of the road surfacing will improves as well to enable motorists to
inscrease riding speed up to 80 km per hour and up to 100 km/hr on
individual sections of the road.
