BIO TOP OFFICIAL PRAISES MALAYSIA'S COMMITMENT IN BIOTECHNOLOGY
WASHINGTON, June 29 (Bernama) -- Biotechnology Industry Organisation (BIO)
president and chief executive officer James Greenwood heaped praises on
Malaysia's commitment for avidly participating in the BIO International
Convention, the world's largest biotechnology gathering hosted by BIO.
Acknowledging that Malaysia has been his favourite delegation, Greenwood
told the largely international audience when officiating the exhibition on
Tuesday alongside Malaysia's Deputy Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin and
Maryland governor Martin O'Malley that Malaysia would turn up at the annual
convention with a strong delegation.
"They have a large delegation, it reflects Malaysia's drive and
determination for its biotechnology development," he said.
Malaysia, via the biotechnology industry facilitator agency Malaysian
Biotechnology Corporation (BiotechCorp), is an avid participant of the BIO
International Convention. This year is the seventh time BiotechCorp is
participating in the annual event.
BiotechCorp first participated in Philadelphia in 2005, followed by Chicago
in 2006, Boston (2007), San Diego (2008), Atlanta (2009) and Chicago (2010).
The BIO International Convention attracts movers and shakers in
biotechnology, offers key networking and partnership opportunities, and provides
insights and inspiration on the major trends affecting the industry.
Greenwood said this year's convention at the Walter E.Washington Convention
Centre had surpassed the 15,000 attendees recorded at the 2010 BIO International
Convention in Chicago, with over 37 per cent of them coming from outside the US.
Greenwood also told the audience that Malaysia had been very keen to get him
to Malaysia.
As the 2011 Pacific Rim Summit on Industrial Biotechnology and Bioenergy
will be held in Kuala Lumpur later this year, Greenwood said : "I will get
there."
The 2011 Pacific Rim Summit on Industrial Biotechnology and Bioenergy will
be held in November this year at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre in
conjunction with BioMalaysia 2011.
