FM Summons Hungarian Envoy over EU Anti-Iran Sanctions

TEHRAN (FNA)- The Iranian foreign ministry summoned Hungarian Ambassador to Tehran George Busztin to protest at the European Union's sanctions against three Iranian military officials.
During the meeting on Tuesday, the director-general of the foreign ministry's Western Europe Department protested at the EU's sanctions against three officials of the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) over unfounded claims of being involved in suppression of Syrian demonstrators.

The Iranian official also blasted the EU's illegal and discourteous approach to Tehran as well as the double-standard policies of the bloc on regional developments and its ignorance of the human tragedy in Bahrain.

Busztin, for his part, vowed to inform Brussels officials of Iran's protest at the EU measure.

Iran's Foreign Ministry Spokesman Ramin Mehman-Parast had earlier said the EU's attempts to connect the IRGC to the developments in Syria were aimed at "creating a negative atmosphere against Iran and distorting the reality".

On June 23, Syria's Foreign Minister Walid al-Muallem firmly rejected reports which accused Iran as well as Lebanon's resistance movement of Hezbollah of providing "military support" for the Syrian government to quell the unrest in the Middle Eastern country.
