Woman hurt in Vladikavkaz household gas blast dies in Moscow clinic.
VLADIKAVKAZ, June 30 (Itar-Tass) -- A woman, who received burns in a
household gas explosion in Vladikavkaz, Russia's Caucasus republic of
North Ossetia, has died at a Moscow-based clinic, a spokesman for the
North Ossetian mission in Moscow told Itar-Tass on Thursday.
According to Irbek Doyev, the woman, Albina Arkayeva, died later on
Wednesday. She had been in critical condition.
As of now, twenty gas blast victims are staying in Moscow clinics. The
Russian emergencies ministry's plane made three flights to airlift them to
Moscow. Two most critical patients underwent surgery on Wednesday. Medics
are sparing no effort to help a woman and her two small children, who
received severe burns. Their condition is said to be stably grave.
Another 12 blast victims are receiving treatment at hospitals in St.
Petersburg. On Wednesday, Governor of St. Petersburg Valentina Matviyenko
visited the patients of the Dzhanelidze Research Institute of First Aid.
She pledged support from the city to the injured people undergoing medical
treatment in St. Petersburg and their relatives who have arrived in the
city to take care of them. In a telephone conversation with North Ossetia'
s head Taimuraz Mamsurov, she said the medics are doing their utmost to
help the blast victims. Five of them are still receiving intensive care.
The accident took place at a private house in the centre of
Vladikavkaz on Saturday. A gas tank exploded, when a wedding was being
celebrated. Fifty-five people were hurt, among them six children.
According to the preliminary results, the explosion resulted from
de-pressurization of the gas tank.
