Russian medics to go to Turkey to see condition of Russian poisoned by alcohol
MOSCOW, June 30 (Itar-Tass) -- Russian Minister of Health and Social
Development Tatiana Golikova on Wednesday ordered to send Russian medics
to Turkey to assess the condition of a Russian woman who is still kept at
a Turkish hospital following a mass outbreak of poisoning among guides
believed to have drunk counterfeit alcohol on a yachting trip.
"The ministry received a telephone request as concerns the condition
of Viktoria Nikolayeva who was poisoned by counterfeit alcohol," a source
in the ministry said. "Minister Tatiana Golikova issued an instruction to
send medics to Turkey to assess Nikolayeva's condition."
As many as 21 Russians sought medical help when they felt sick after a
yachting trip near the resort town of Bodrum in May 27 organized for
Russian guides. The probe has resulted in the discovery of high doses of
methanol, commonly used to mix bootleg alcohol, in blood samples from the
victims and the seizure of some 200 bottles of counterfeit drinks on
vessels operated by the same yachting company, according to media reports.
