Samsung Group's net income jumps 48.5 pct in 2010

SEOUL, June 30 (Yonhap) -- Samsung Electronics Co., South Korea's largest-cap company, said Thursday that the total earnings of the tech giant and its affiliates jumped 48.5 percent in 2010 from one year earlier.
The consolidated net profit of 245 Samsung-affiliated companies at home and abroad reached 23.45 trillion won (US$21.86 billion) in 2010, compared with 15.78 trillion won in the previous year, Samsung Electronics said in a regulatory filing.
The full year revenues of all Samsung-affiliated companies rose 11.8 percent from one year earlier to 259.63 trillion won in 2010, it added. Operating profit stood at 29.14 trillion won, up 39.1 percent on-year.
The figures include results from 49 non-financial companies under the wing of Samsung Group, such as Samsung SDI Co. and Samsung C&T Corp. and their 179 overseas affiliates as well as 17 financial services companies.
Samsung Electronics is the flagship of Samsung Group, the largest family-controlled conglomerate in South Korea.
The group's spending on research and development reached 5.75 trillion won in 2010, up 21.9 percent from the previous year, according to the filing.
Samsung Group spent 6.89 trillion won on salaries for its 200,000 employees in 2010, up 13.1 percent on-year.
