SK China aiming for 86 bln yuan in sales in 2015

HONG KONG, June 30 (Yonhap) -- The Chinese subsidiary of South Korean conglomerate SK Group said Thursday it is aiming to post 86 billion yuan (US$13.3 billion) in annual sales by 2015 by continuously seeking new business opportunities.
To that end, SK China Co. said it will seek to expand its sales by an annual rate of 30 percent during the 2011-2015 period. The company logged sales of 23 billion yuan during the six months following its launch.
SK China set sail in July 2010 to control SK Group affiliates in the fast growing economy, engaging in such business sectors as new energy, petrochemicals, next generation information and communications technology (ICT), and urban development and environment.
"SK China will continue to find new business opportunities in China by hooking up with South Korean companies as well as global corporations," Vice Chairman Park Young-ho said.
SK China said the company's investment in China will amount to $14.6 billion over the next 10 years, which will be mostly put in energy and ICT sectors.
SK China signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) last year with China Energy Conservation and Environmental Protection Group, a company actively engaged in the energy conservation, emissions reduction and environment protection sectors.
In February, SK China set up a joint venture in the southern Chinese city of Shenzhen to extend the range of its business to include integrated chips, software and other mobile communications solutions
In the same month, it established another joint venture in Qingdao in Shandong province in order to develop chemical and biological applications to reduce pollutants in soil.
In line with SK China's move to refurbish its strategies for the Chinese market, the group's key affiliate in South Korea, SK Telecom Co. signed an MOU with China's largest telecom operator China Mobile in March. They plan to jointly develop next-generation technologies.
Stressing that its ultimate goal is to become a respected true Chinese firm, SK China said it seeks to accelerate the localization process by placing more Chinese employees at positions at or above the manager level.
