M'SIAN MINISTER DISAPPOINTED WITH DECLINING COURTESY AMONG YOUTHS
KUALA LUMPUR, June 30 (Bernama) - Information Communication and Culture
Minister Dr Rais Yatim is disappointed with the declining courtesy and cultural
values among youths.
He said the level of courtesy could be gauged from the attitude of children
who find it difficult to say thank you after receiving aid.
"We distributed thousands of 1Malaysia netbooks to schooolchildren and they
took them without looking at the giver's face, what more say thank you," he
said at the ministry's Excellent Service Award 2010 ceremony at Istana Budaya
(National Theatre) here Thursday.
A total of 811 civil servants from 18 departments and agencies under the
ministry received awards.
Rais said from his observation, foreign society is more polite compared to
Malaysian society.
He hopes that 'Kempen Adab dan Sopan,' ("good manners campaign") launched
recently could change the attitude of society consistent with the goal of
achieving civilised society in line with 1Malaysia concept.
"It will be inculcated in schools and functions to make us feel thankful and
and appreciative. Let's revive the old culture of being thankful for the gift,
giving salam and greeting Selamat Pagi (good morning) with a smile to show
positive attitude."
Rais also reminded the people to use social tools like 'Facebook' and
'Twitter' for good things.
"No point in destroying your own race. Step up the struggle, give more
business to our people, enhance excellence and the 1Malaysia culture," he added.
