Seoul shares open higher on Wall Street rallies
SEOUL, July 1 (Yonhap) -- South Korean stocks got off to a strong start Friday as overnight Wall Street rallies and relief about Europe's debt troubles boosted investor sentiment, analysts said.
The benchmark Korea Composite Stock Price Index (KOSPI) rose 0.91 percent, or 19.13 points, to 2,119.82 in the first 15 minutes of trading.
U.S. stocks finished the last trading session of June with a bull run as progress in Europe to rescue Greece fueled investor optimism.
The Dow Jones industrial average jumped 1.25 percent and the tech-focused Nasdaq composite index added 1.21 percent.
The local currency was trading at 1,067.75 won to the greenback as of 9:15 a.m., down 0.05 won from Thursday's close.
