Vnukovo airport re-opens for VIPs.
MOSCOW, July 1 (Itar-Tass) -- Russian President Dmitry Medvedev and
other top officials and VIPs will again use the government airport in
Vnukovo from Friday as the overhaul of the runway which lasted for two and
a half months has been completed.
All aircraft will be moved to Vnukovo from Sheremetyevo airport in a
week, spokesman of the Kremlin business administration Viktor Khrekov told
Tass.
Vnukovo has two runways which cross each other and the overhaul of the
crossing part shortened the operating runway to two kilometers which did
not allow big aircraft to land.
The overhaul of the whole runway will complete in 2012 however the
second one became fully operational (3060 meters) on Friday.
A modern highway is linking Moscow with Vnukovo, while the road to
Sheremetyevo is often jammed and Russian media said Medvedev had to use a
helicopter to get to the airport.
