Medvedev sees education cluster in Far East.

VLADIVOSTOK, July 1 (Itar-Tass) -- President Dmitry Medvedev believes
the Far Eastern Federal University which is under the construction on
Russky Island for APEC summit in 2012 may develop into a completely new
educational cluster in the region that will train Russians from all over
the country as well as foreigners.
"I believe it may be a specific educational zest of the region where
residents of the Far East and the country in general, as well as
foreigners will study. The Far Eastern University may develop into a
strong research and education project as we did not spare money on it," he
said at a meeting with regional Governor Sergei Darkin on Friday.
Medvedev inspected the University campus on Thursday and said he would
like "to come and teach here". The Russian president numerously said he
would switch to lecturing after he quits as the head of state.
Darkin said the construction of APEC objects radically decreased
unemployment in Primorye region while planned new projects will demand
manpower from outside the territory.
"Unemployment currently comprises 2.3 percent. It sharply fell due to
APEC projects," he said.
The governor said planned investment projects include a gas processing
facility of Gazprom and a petrochemical plant with Rosneft, as well as car
assembly facilities and shipyards.
He estimated the projects will demand 100 thousand workers while
current unemployment in the region comprises 25 thousand.
"We hope more Russians will come to live and work here," Darkin said.
"It is important that many new points of growth appear. It will have a
positive effect for the region and its residents," Medvedev commented.
"All the projects aim at ensuring modern and interesting life in the
Far East so that people come to work and rest here," the president said.
