CENTRE SHOWS COMMITMENT OF SCHLUMBERGER TO INVESTMENT IN MALAYSIA
SEBERANG PERAI (Bernama) -- The opening of
Schlumberger Ltd's WesternGeco Penang Product Centre (WPPC) today showed its
commitment to its investment in Malaysia.
Minister in the Prime Minister's Department, Nor Mohamed Yakcop,
said the centre represented an excellent example of a project taking advantage
of cluster development in the Northern Corridor Economic Region.
"I'm confident that WPPC's contributions to local and regional development
will be enhanced by its proximity to Asia's natural resources.
"For Asia's national oil companies, in particular, the centre will help
boost operations with its best-in-class solutions towards developing more oil
and gas fields," he said in his speech at the opening of the centre here today.
Nor Mohamed said the presence of Schlumberger would encourage more oil and
gas multinational companies to set up bases in this region.
"I would also like to call on Schlumberger to continue working with the
government towards furthering the nation's talent development agenda," he said.
Chairman of Schlumberger Asia, Jamal A. Ainul, said the location of the
manufacturing and sustaining teams in the region would enhance operational
excellence and enable the efficient development of the solutions needed to match
the region's technological challenges.
WPPC, which has 160 staff, is the fourth production centre besides Tokyo,
ingapore and Shanghai.
It will play an important role in the continued development of the
WesternGeco Q-Technology to provide a unique reservoir monitoring and imaging
capabilities.
Schlumberger has principal offices in Paris, Houston and The Hague. It
recorded a revenue of US$27.45 billion in 2010.
