HELP BUILD GLOBAL CONFIDENCE IN MALAYSIA, MEDIA URGED

KANGAR (Bernama) -- Perlis chief minister Dr Md
Isa Sabu Friday urged the mass media to help build international confidence in
the country by portraying the correct image of Malaysia.

Attempts to create chaos through the illegal rallies would be damaging to
the country, he said.

"The government has placed high hopes on the mass media to alleviate the
people's anxiety and build international confidence," he said when opening the
clubhouse of the Perlis Media Club (KEMPs), here.

The chief minister of the Malaysian northern state, said the government
appreciated the role of the mass media in channelling positive information to
and educating the community.

"The influence of the mass media is enormous and the writings of journalists
have a tremendous impact on the people," he said at the event which was also
attended by Perlis state executive councillors and heads of department.

Dr Isa said the mass media also had the responsibility to help preserve
harmony in the country.
