HEALTH MINISTRY TO IMPLEMENT 1MALAYSIA FOOD SAFETY SCHEME IN 2014


KUALA LUMPUR, July 2 (Bernama) -- The Health Ministry will be implementing the 1Malaysia Food Safety Scheme in 2014 which will entail inspection of food products manufactured by small and medium industries (SMIs).

Health Minister Liow Tiong Lai said currently, the ministry was in the process of explaining the importance of surveillance of food products produced by SMIs to the stakeholders.

"Now were doing sampling of food products manufactured by SMIs at the retail end. Later, the sampling will be done at their factories.

"However, this process will take some time as there more than 100,000 SMIs involved," he said at the Health Media Awards night organised by his ministry here Friday.

Liow added that the comprehensive checks on the food products manufactured by SMIs would be handled by the ministry itself.

Radio Television Malaysia's (RTM) Traxxfm's journalist Suhaila Md Zain was named the winner in the Best Health Programme -Radio category while in the TV category, the award went to TV3's Irin Putri Azmi for Majalah 3's "Terapi Ulat-Jijik tapi Berjasa" episode.

Also present were Deputy Health Minister Rosnah Abdul Rashid Shirlin and Malaysian National News Agency (Bernama) Editor-in-Chief, Yong Soo Heong.
