PROGRAMME PROMOTING ARTS AND CULTURE TO STRENGTHEN UNITY IN MELAKA
MELAKA (Bernama) -- The arts and culture promotion programme, called "Merakyatkan Seni Budaya", will not only promote the sector in the country but also strengthen unity among the state's multi-racial community,said Chief Minister of southern Melaka state Mohd Ali Rustam.
He said cultural heritage was an invaluable asset in preserving racial identity, especially when facing the globalisation era.
"For the development of Melaka, the state government will also emphasise on the arts and cultural heritage of the various races," he told reporters at Kampung Bukit Nibong, near here, the capital of Melaka state, Friday night.
Over 1,500 people took part in the event which was attended by the state Governor Mohd Khalil Yaakob and his wife, Zurina Kassim.
Mohd Ali added that he hoped the programme organised by the Melaka Arts and Culture Department could be extended statewide.
