Iranian Parliament Speaker Meets Azeri President

TEHRAN (FNA)- Iranian Parliament Speaker Ali Larijani and Azeri President Ilham Aliyev held a meeting in Baku to confer on ways to further develop bilateral relations and mutual cooperation between the two countries.
During the meeting, Larijani said Iran is interested in expanding economic and political cooperation with the Republic of Azerbaijan.

He said that the Islamic Republic is also keen to boost parliamentary relations with its neighbor.

The Iranian parliament speaker described Tehran-Baku relations as satisfactory and called for the expansion of Iran-Azerbaijan ties in all areas, particularly the economic sector.

Aliyev called Azerbaijan's ties with Iran "brotherly and cordial", adding that economic transactions between the two countries need to be increased.

The Azeri president said that the Iran-Turkey-Azerbaijan trilateral meetings should continue since regular talks between their officials could help enhance their relations.

Tehran and Baku have sought to expand their ties, specially in trade and economic fields, and signed several cooperation agreements in recent months.

Iranian Minister of Culture and Islamic Guidance Mohammad Hosseini was in Baku in July, 2010, where he met with senior Azeri officials and discussed bilateral ties and cooperation, in cultural fields in particular.

Also, the Azeri deputy prime minister who was in Tehran in March to attend the International Nowrouz Celebrations, said that Azerbaijan has always called for restoration of peace and stability to the region and favors expansion of all-out relations with Iran.
