Italian Court Removes Travel Ban on 2 Iranian Nationals

TEHRAN (FNA)- An Italian court voted for lifting travel ban on an Iranian reporter and another national of the country, permitting them to return home.
A Foreign Ministry official said that the Iranian national, Ali Damirchilou, has returned home from Italy.

Hassan Qashqavi, Deputy Foreign Minister for Consular, Parliamentary and Expatriates Affairs said that following Iran's diplomatic and legal measures regarding the situation of two Iranians living in Italy, Damirchilou returned home Friday night.

He told the Islamic republic news agency that an Italian court has already removed the ban on an Iranian reporter, Hamid Masouminezhad, too and now he is allowed to leave Italy.

Though the case is open yet, he added, the fact that the ban on the two Iranians is now removed and they are able to return home is a good step towards final settlement of their problem.

Damirchilou and Masouminezhad were detained and jailed by the Italian police on March 12, 2009 on alleged arms-trafficking charges.

Following Iranian Foreign Ministry's measures based on international conventions, the prison terms of the two jailed Iranians were transformed into house arrest and then the court changed its verdict to a ban on leaving Italy.
