Traffic partly resumed on Trans-Siberian railway in Buryatia
ULAN-UDE (Itar-Tass) - Traffic of trains has been resumed at
the down track of a section of the Trans-Siberian railway in the region of
Buryatia, east off Lake Baikal, where operations were eclipsed Saturday by
a collision of two cargo trains.
"About 500 meters of the groundwork has been restored and the catenary
system has been adjusted," a source at the East-Siberian department of the
Russian railway operator company, the RZD, said.
Priority to traverse the restored section of the line is given to
passenger trains.
The railway authorities have provided additional hot meals and
freshwater for passengers of Khabvarovsk-Moscow train No. 43 that has been
stalled at the Onkhoi station east off the regional capital Ulan-Ude.
Passengers of the trains No. 78 from Novosibirsk to Negyungri in
Yakutia and No. 350 from Moscow to Blagoveshchensk, both of them
deadlocked in Ulan-Ude for the time being, have been offered hot meals and
have been invited to use reaction rooms on the railway station compound.
"Another two passenger trains affected by the accident are
Neryungri-Novosibirsk No. 77 and Moscow-Khabarovsk No. 44," the source
said.
Saturday, 25 coaches of two cargo trains slid off the tracks at the
Onkhoi-Taltsi section of the Trans-Siberian line. There were no victims or
destructions.
The accident did not create any risks for the ecology.
At the time of reporting an investigative commission of the RZD
continued working at the site of the accident.
