Commander Underscores Navy's High Trans-Regional Capabilities

TEHRAN (FNA)- A senior commander described the Iranian Navy as a "strategic force" with the capability to safeguard the country's interests in and outside the region.
Addressing a ceremony in Iran's Northern city of Rasht, the provincial capital city of Gilan province, Lieutenant Commander of the Iranian Navy Rear Admiral Gholam-Reza Khadem Biqam said that the Navy has been able to boost its military might not only in, but also outside the region.

"And this is a threat to the enemies of the Islamic Republic," the commander noted.

He further cautioned that enemies have hatched various plots to prevent Iran's development into a trans-regional power, and added, "Arrogance is seeking to harm Navy's might and power in and outside the region since the (Iranian) Navy displays the might and power of the sacred Islamic Republic system."

The remarks by Biqam came months after Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei described the Iranian Army's Navy as "a strategic force".

"Given the current issues of the world and today's geopolitical conditions of the world, we should strengthen ourselves in sea and in coast as far as we can," Ayatollah Khamenei stressed on November 28, addressing senior Navy commanders here in Tehran in a ceremony to commemorate the National Navy Day.

The leader also stressed that increasing manpower, recruiting talented personnel and taking innovations and initiatives into action are highly necessary for the future of the country's naval forces.

Ayatollah Khamenei further praised the close cooperation between naval forces of the Islamic Republic Army and the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC).

The Iranian Army Navy and the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps Navy have tight cooperation in controlling the country's waterways and protecting Iran's interests inside territorial waters and in the high seas.
