RNC session in Sochi to deal with ABM, Libya, counterterrorism
MOSCOW, July 4 (Itar-Tass) -- Possibilities for cooperation in the
establishment of a European missile defense system will be discussed by
the Russia-NATO Council (RNC) at a visiting session in Sochi at the level
of permanent representatives on Monday.
Russian President Dmitry Medvedev, who will be there on a working
trip, will meet with session participants led by NATO Secretary General
Anders Fogh Rasmussen.
The RNC session will also deal with efforts towards stabilizing the
situation in Libya and a series of practical steps "in the areas of common
interest of Russia and NATO, such as the suppression of terrorism, sea
piracy, the drug threat coming from Afghanistan, and the response to
natural calamities and industrial accidents. The question of NATO/ISAF
cooperation with the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO), which
has a serious potential in the combating of Afghan terrorism and drug
threat, will be also raised," a Kremlin administration source told
Itar-Tass.
