Counterterrorism, Olympics-2014 safety to dominate RNC meet
BRUSSELS, July 4 (Itar-Tass) - Counterterrorism will be a subject for
discussion to run throughout Monday's session of the Russia-NATO Council
(RNC) in Sochi, Dmitry Rogozin, Russia's Permanent Representative at NATO,
has told Itar-Tass. He said the Russian side would inform NATO partners of
the latest technological developments in the field of fight against
terrorism and would acquaint them with approaches to ensuring safety
during the 2014 Winter Olympic Games.
"The Antiterrorist Committee's briefing on Russia's technological
achievements making it possible to detect explosives both in a luggage and
on the body of a 'living bomb', and in places of mass assembly of people
at transportation hubs, etc. bids fair to be highly interesting to our
Western colleagues," Rogozin said.
"A closed-door exhibition of equipment which Russia, in the near term,
will use to ensure the safety of its citizens, will be held in Sochi. Part
of the equipment will be included in a joint-with-NATO Standex project.
This is primarily technology for an anonymous detection of explosives on
a human body from a distance," Rogozin pointed out.
"Preparations for the 2014 Olympics will be a natural subject of
discussion at the session in Sochi. The Russian side has demonstrated our
resolve and technological preparedness to ensure complete safety during
the conduct of the Olympics to the our Western colleagues in NATO,"
Rogozin said. He recalled in this connection that Deputy Head of
Government Dmitry Kozak would hold a special briefing on preparations for
the Olympics "from the point of view of security-ensuring technology, not
from the viewpoint of how smart sports facilities look".
